Five Advantages to the EB-5 Visa

The U.S. EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa program is one of the most sought after Residency By Investment programs currently available. According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, over the past 8 years, more than 20,000 EB-5 green cards have been issued to applicants from around the world who have relocated to the US and begun to enjoy the advantages of living, doing business, raising a family, and going to school in America.

In order to qualify for an EB-5 Visa, foreign nationals are eligible to apply for a green card if they:

  • Make the necessary investment in a commercial enterprise in the United States;
  • and plan to create or preserve 10 permanent full-time jobs for qualified US workers.

Although a number of countries offer Citizenship By Investment (CBI) or Residency By Investment (RBI), the EB-5 program has 5 significant advantages over other investor visa pathways:

1. Cost Per Person

The EB-5 program is ideal for large families who want to relocate to the USA. Each EB-5 visa application can include a spouse and any unmarried children under the age of 21. Unlike other CBI or RBI programs, the EB-5 program does not charge an extra investment fee for each additional green card applicant. As a result, for many families, the cost per individual green card is quite low with the EB-5 Visa.

2. Access to Education

Unlike foreign students who must demonstrate English proficiency before being enrolled in a US school or before being issued an F-1 visa, there are no such English proficiency requirements for EB-5 green card holders. As a result EB-5 green card holders can come to the US to study, regardless of their English proficiency. EB-5 visa holders who do not speak English are welcome to enroll in US schools that offer programs that are specifically designed for English Language Learners (ELL).

3. Unrestricted Business and Investment Opportunities

EB-5 green card holders are free to pursue their business and investment dreams without any restrictions once they arrive in the US. Unlike other RBI programs where visa holders cannot freely acquire property and engage in unlimited business transactions, the EB-5 Visa allows the holder to purchase and invest in real estate and to acquire or launch new businesses.

4. Unrestricted Employment Opportunities

All EB-5 green card holders are eligible to work in the US provided they are old enough to work. From the day they arrive in America, EB-5 green card holders are free to apply for any employment position they choose. There are no restrictions on where in the US EB-5 Visa holders can work or what types of employment they can seek.

In addition, EB-5 green card holders are protected by the same workplace rules, regulations, and laws that protect American citizens. Green card holders receive the same workplace opportunities, benefits, and protections as their US citizen counterparts.

5. Freedom to Travel

EB-5 green card holders are free to travel within the United States at any time. The EB-5 green card does not require holders to remain in one specific place. Green card holders are free to travel within the US to look for jobs, to seek other business opportunities and investments, and to take advantage of education opportunities.

The EB-5 Immigrant Investor program opens the doors to a virtually unlimited variety of business, educational, and living opportunities. EB-5 green card holders immediately gain the freedom to pursue a wide variety of employment, business and education opportunities. In addition, they are free to travel inside and outside the US.
